Set to premiere on Prime Video this year, “The Assassin” is an upcoming British crime thriller starring Keeley Hawes (“Orphan Black: Echoes,” “Bodyguard”) and Freddie Highmore (“The Good Doctor,” “Bates Motel”). Major details about the story are being kept quiet for now, but we do know that the six-episode limited series is currently in postproduction after filming in Greece last summer. “The Assassin” creators Harry and Jack Williams are the award-winning producing duo behind Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s “Fleabag”; they also created Netflix’s “The Tourist” and Prime Video’s “The Widow.”

What is “The Assassin” about?
Julie (Hawes) is a retired assassin living a secluded life in Greece. Her estranged son, Edward (Highmore), unexpectedly shows up to visit, seeking answers about Julie’s former life and the identity of his own father. With their mother-son relationship already on the rocks, the situation becomes even more heightened when a dangerous acquaintance from Julie’s past appears and they’re forced to flee for their lives.

Kelly Valentine Hendry (“Bridgerton,” “Grantchester,” “The Wheel of Time”) and Jessica Mescall (“Kaos,” “Rivals”) are the casting directors. Roussos Kasiotakis (“One Day”) is credited for extras casting. “The Assassin” comes from the Williams brothers’ production studio, Two Brothers Pictures, and is directed by Lisa Mulcahy (“Red Rock”) and Daniel Nettheim (“Doctor Who”).
